The 2017 Crossfit Open at CrossFit Petram!

What is the Open?

I had something in mind that I wanted to write here, but CrossFit HQ does a much better job than I do!

Something to note, CrossFit HQ is based out in California, so please note that they are using Pacific Standard time when explaining the Open.

Why should I do the Open?

CrossFit Games veteran Austin Malleolo provides some great insight here.

You will have the option to do the workouts Friday or Saturday with coaches in the building. If you need to retest or do the workout on Monday, please let a coach know and we will do our best to accommodate.

What is Friday Night Lights?

Friday Night Lights is a staple in many CrossFit gyms around the country. It is a small scale competition every Friday night for the 5 weeks of the CrossFit Open at your local CrossFit Affiliate. Spectators and friends are welcome to cheer on our superhuman members! Food and drink are encouraged, but not required!

FNL is a fun, welcoming environment where members and their friends and family can come together and experience CrossFit and the amazing community that we have.

When does it start?

Newark Location

Friday night at 5:30, the first heats will start! We will be open at 5:00 it members would like to get there early and warm up. The last heat will end at 7:30, with a group of the 6 week challenge people taking a class.

MOT Location

Friday night at 8:30, the first heats will start and go as long as necessary!

How does it work?

Each Thursday Night, a workout will be announced online. The next Friday, will be the night to tackle that workout.

Thursday Night a post will be made with the heat times, which must be decided after the workout is done. Once the times are up, please have an idea of when you would like to come in and workout. Heat times are first come, first serve, meaning you must be at the gym to sign up for your heat on the PHYSICAL whiteboard.

After you arrive, the coaches will have a suggested warm up for you. You will be able to do those movements in the warm up area, as well as any other warm up you would like!

Workout heats will have one judge for one athlete.

If you are not doing the workout, we ask that you step up at least once or twice to judge an athlete. The standards will be released with the workouts, and the Petram coaches will help answer any questions. We will have clipboards and pens available for scoring.

Judges will be responsible for keeping the athlete accountable and counting their reps. The athletes and judges will be in the designated workout lanes.

Once your workout is complete, the judge will show you your score, you will sign off on it, and we will record all the scores! You may then submit your score on games.crossfit.com if you are registered for the online leaderboard.

What's the Deadline to Sign Up for the Open?

Still not sure if you want to sign up for the Open? Maybe you want to see how the first workout goes. Or maybe you'll realize that the Open really is for everyone! Well you can sign up anytime after it has started... even after week 1 scores are due! However, please note that if you sign up after the submission date for Week 1, you will not be able to submit your score.

However, if you don't want to register, we still want you to participate! We will be collecting your scores as well and creating our own leaderboard! Whether registering online, or just getting started, you will be able to use this data to see where you've come and where you will go in the future!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact any of the coaches. Looking forward to the Open season with all of you!

"See you on the Leaderboard!"
