2023 CrossFit Petram Open: Week 3 Details

With Week 2 officially in the books, it is safe to say that every athlete got a first this week, as we saw two new movements introduced - burpee pull-ups and shuttle runs! Personally, I loved how different this workout was, and I learned a lot! Teams came together to help the community around us by spreading some uplifting messages, and it was pretty incredible to see picture after picture of our creations throughout town, the places we work and teach, or the quiet spaces we go to walk and reflect. In fact, one of our rocks was found and given a shout out! We made a difference for someone who really needed to hear it.

Week 3 is the big finale - one more workout to go! Are you ready? We sure are! See below for the goodness!

Theme: A Night Out At the Movies!

This week, we are rolling out the red carpet for our favorite people - YOU! Help your team earn points by dressing up like your favorite movie character or rocking a tee shirt sporting your favorite movie! Use some of our provided photo props to grab a team photo and share it with us, and the community, on social media! Want to earn some additional bonus points? Be on the lookout for some random movie quotes - first person to guess the movie wins!

Help, I’m Sore!: Our very own Brad Logue will be set up this Friday offering some physical therapy services. Be sure to check his station, set up by the lifting platform!

Pop Up Shop!: TYR Apparel

This week, we are excited to host a pop-up shop for TYR clothing and apparel, a company created by a former Olympic athlete, and now a partner with CrossFit! You can get a feel for their merchandise by browsing here. To sweeten the pot, TYR is offering everyone 10% off at FNL. Bring your shopping bags! :)

Community Give Back Partner and Contest: The Everett Theater

The Everett Theater is our neighbor across the street, and has been a part of downtown Middletown since 1863 when it first opened its doors. Over the years, it has become the center for local theater and arts, workshops and classes, and of course, a great night out at the movies! You can read more about what The Everett offers here. During our final week, we will be raising funds to support The Everett that will line up nicely with Delaware’s Giving Day, an annual 24 hour fundraiser. How will we raise funds? We are having ourselves a good ol’ fashion CHANGE WAR!

Here’s how it works:

  • Each team will have a designated jug at the gym for their change.

  • To put your team into the “positive”, drop your loose change (quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies) into your team jug. Think of this as like moving your team forward on a number line.

  • If you are feeling a little mischeivious, you can put other teams into the “negative” by dropping in paper bills into their team jugs (ones, fives, tens, or more!) Think of this as moving other teams backwards on a number line.

  • Coin totals can be cancelled out by any paper bills that are dropped into jugs. For example: 100 pennies can be cancelled out of your total fundraising amount if a 1 dollar bill is dropped into the jug.

  • The team jug with the most “positive” points will take top spot in our last community challenge!

  • All of the money that is collected will be totaled and gifted to The Everett during the week of March 6, 2023.

Class Flow: On Fridays, class times remain the same in the morning and at noon, but our last class before Friday Night Lights is 3:30 PM. We will be open for 3:30 PM class and then closing until we re-open the gym for Friday Night Lights. During class, you can expect a warm up and then two heats of athletes working out. Please know that as coaches who have yet to complete the workout (just like you all), we are going to do our best to brief you and give you strategies…but remember - it’s just exercise. Go out there and have fun!

Friday Night Lights: The doors for Friday Night Lights open at 5:30 PM. The workout brief with movement standards will begin approximately at 5:45 PM, with heat 1 kicking off around 6:00 PM. In order to workout at Friday Night Lights, it is important that you sign up using our Wodify app (you can actually reserve your spot right now in the app). We will use this sign up list to create random heats for Friday night. This information will also be shared in the members page if you are a part of our Facebook community. We respectfully ask that you do not request a certain heat, or to workout with certain people, as the heats are dependent upon the released workout. If you have a unique circumstance and need an adjustment, please reach out and we will do our best to accommodate you. If you completed the workout earlier in the day, don’t worry! You can still show up to Friday Night Lights to cheer for other members! In addition, we will have have a potluck style spread for members to enjoy. This event is BYOB.

Weekly Points: You’ve seen this sprinkled throughout the information, but just to clarify, there are lots of different ways to earn points across the week for you squad:

  • 1 point for completing the workout (please enter your score in Wodify)

  • 1 point for attending Friday Night Lights

  • 1 point for participating in the weekly theme

  • Team points will be awarded for each community give back contest

Start considering how you can use your experiences from the past few weeks to begin to set some concrete goals for yourself. I have members ask me often to share my goal setting routine, the questions I ask myself, and how I make a plan. I’ve already learned so much, and am excited about the goals I want to set for myself in this next year! Listen to your body, treat it well, and as always, I’ll see you at the gym!

Hugs,

Coach Kady
