2023 CrossFit Petram Open: Week 2 Details

Week 1 has officially come to a close, and per usual, we started off this Open with a bang! We had several members grab their “first” movement, and many more step into a new division they may have never tried before! Remember, the Open is a way for us to test ourselves to set some goals for the months ahead - it’s not about accumulating the most work, it’s about trying the harder skill or heavier weight. We are really proud of all the efforts we’ve seen during this first test. To top it all off, we had a great donation drive for the Faithful Friends Animal Society. We were able to donate over 400 items, along with monetary donations, to help out the shelter workers and make life a little bright for animals who are waiting for their “fur”-ever homes. Upon emptying all of our bins, the shelter workers were both shocked and delighted at this unannounced delivery!

Theme: Who Let the Rockstars In?!

Juuuuust take those old records off the shelf! During Week 2, we are embracing the spirit of rock n’ roll. Help your team earn points by wearing your best rockstar attire. Show off your favorite rock and roll band, sport a cool wig, or dress up entirely! It’s up to you. As usual, pictures make everything better. So, be sure to grab your teammates before or after you complete your workout, and show off those rockstar outfits!

Community Give Back Partner and Contest: Kindess Rocks!

The Kindness Rocks Project is an organization that believes one message, at the right time, can change someone’s momemnt…day….or life. As a community, we are surrounded by people walking through hard things all the time, and yet, we may never know about those struggles. The founder of the project, Megan, started this project shortly after her parents passed away. Listen to her story here. This week, the challenge is simple:

Each team will receive 25 blank kindness rocks (except for the Gray Team - I used our first rock!). Our goal, as a gym, is to create as many kindness rocks and spread them across the community. Leave it at a local business. Let your children place it outside at their school or local playground. Take it to work, and place it in a garden. Show off your rock by sharing a picture with us. Let’s see which team can spread some positive messages about mental health, self-love, and general positivity. Need a little inspiration? Check out my adventure below:

Note: As an athlete, please only take one rock. Please only use the rocks supplied for your team.

Class Flow: On Fridays, class times remain the same in the morning and at noon, but our last class before Friday Night Lights is 3:30 PM. We will be open for 3:30 PM class and then closing until we re-open the gym for Friday Night Lights. During class, you can expect a warm up and then two heats of athletes working out. Please know that as coaches who have yet to complete the workout (just like you all), we are going to do our best to brief you and give you strategies…but remember - it’s just exercise. Go out there and have fun!


Friday Night Lights: The doors for Friday Night Lights open at 6:00 PM. The workout brief with movement standards will begin approximately at 6:10 PM, with heat 1 kicking off at 6:30 PM. In order to workout at Friday Night Lights, it is important that you sign up using our Wodify app (you can actually reserve your spot right now in the app). We will use this sign up list to create random heats for Friday night. This information will also be shared in the members page if you are a part of our Facebook community. We respectfully ask that you do not request a certain heat, or to workout with certain people, as the heats are dependent upon the released workout. If you have a unique circumstance and need an adjustment, please reach out and we will do our best to accommodate you. If you completed the workout earlier in the day, don’t worry! You can still show up to Friday Night Lights to cheer for other members! In addition, we will have have a potluck style spread for members to enjoy. This event is BYOB.


Weekly Points: You’ve seen this sprinkled throughout the information, but just to clarify, there are lots of different ways to earn points across the week for you squad:

  • 1 point for completing the workout (please enter your score in Wodify)

  • 1 point for attending Friday Night Lights

  • 1 point for participating in the weekly theme

  • Team points will be awarded for each community give back contest


As we get ready for the release of Workout #2 on Thursday, remember - listen to your body this week. Take a rest day before we work hard on Friday. Drink water. Get sleep. But most importantly, be proud of what you’ve done so far. As always, I’ll see you at the gym!
